Oct 11, 2018 If you’ve ever found yourself in the position where you’ve wanted to somehow get the Tempo Map from an audio file (created in Studio One) into the Studio One Tempo Track - In this video I demonstrate how to extract a Tempo Map from Audio Events in Studio One Version 4.1 and above. The process of Focus mapping is identical to Global mapping, with one critical difference. To see this difference, open the interface for any virtual instrument or effect. By default, all virtual instruments and effects open in Focus mode, and the Focus button in the plug-in window’s toolbar is highlighted. | I'm currently evaluating several DAWs, specifically looking at the tempo/beat mapping process and how optimized it is with each DAW. I work with long, unstructured audio recorded without a click and would regularly be breaking down hour long band rehearsals into more useful chunks of 1 to 4 bar phrases of varying degrees of tempo and time changes (there's a lot of prog-like changes in the music). From what I can gather, Studio One's preferred method was using Melodyne to detect transients before making manual tweaks; on an old forum thread (https://forumsarchive.presonus.com/posts/list/15213.page) a Jonathan of Presonus mentions 'a better way is coming..'. I'm assuming that was implemented in 2.5 or 3.0. Can anyone describe the process now in detail or point me to a video? I can't see to find anything recent on the subject as far as process and/or video. | Subject:Re:Tempo Mapping in Studio One | CTStump Presonoid Joined: 25/12/2011 20:58:22 Messages: 1154 Location: Dona Ana, New Mexico, in the U.S.of A. | You can do this with Groove Quantize here is a info page on this and other features(it's about half way down the page): http://www.presonus.com/products/Studio-One/explore/workflow/gets-the-job-done/edit
Quote: Drag-and-drop groove quantizing. The drummer was completely in the pocket on that last take but the bassist played it a little too straight. The gumbo needs more spice. You wish you could put that bass player into the drummer's groove. What to do? Drag-and-drop, of course. Drop the drum tracks (all of them) in the Quantize panel's Groove Map and shazam! The drummer's groove is driving the tune. Now quantize the bass to the drummer's groove, add some “Tony’s” Creole seasoning, and ladle generously over rice. It's a tasty recipe, so save it for later as a Groove Template.

It is amazing sometimes what people can and cant find. The Jonathan quote who is no longer with the company, is two years old. ( not looking at the date now) I called him on it the day he made the promise but received no reply. I have been consistently asking for improvement in this area but it can be done with the current code ( i do it all the time) just not as slick as Cubase or Sonar. If you want to tempo map I have an entire video series on Audio Timing. Here is a specific example, . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIQ_q1sP9JQ Since you may not be able to see this on the forum look at my YouTube channel the second video series. http://www.youtube.com/user/jpettit123?feature=watch | My Website FRs: Tempo Detection & Mapping Training Videos: Advance Melodyne, Creating Macros, 2.5 New Features, Signal Flow, Audio Timing Drum Replacement, Tempo Mapping, Useful Macros, Transformations, Layer/Takes/Comps Simultaneous Audio Interfaces: Audiobox 1818VSL, RME 9632, Line 6 UX2, HF Presonus HP-60 DAWs: Studio One Pro 2.6.1, Reaper 4.5, Sonar X3c Pro, Adobe Audition CS5 Computer: OS:Win7 64-bit, Core i7 950, ASUS P6X58D Premium, 12GB DDR3 1600, GeForce GTX 470 (for CUDA) ,SSD Boot & Cache drives, 1 Tera 7200 RPM SATA II Audio & Video drives, UAD-2 x2 | Subject:Re:Tempo Mapping in Studio One | gravyface Prenoob Joined: 10/02/2014 16:54:17 Messages: 3 Offline
| Wow, you're like the Tempo Mapping Champion around here How did I miss this? Glad to have you on my side brutha. I actually just figured out what it was I was looking for, terminology wise, a few days ago and have been furiously googling to see who's doing the best job of it. I'm a Reaper user now, but my skill level with Reaper is so minor, switching now to another DAW wouldn't really set me back as all I'm using it for is as a tape machine essentially. I'm going to read/check out your signature links to get up to speed. Cheers | Subject:Re:Tempo Mapping in Studio One | jpettit Presonoid Joined: 13/01/2011 23:44:45 Messages: 2211 Location: Portland Oregon Offline
| It looks like you request came in from pre sales? Meaning you don't own S1 yet? If so it may be too early to say Welcome aboard! There are more user defined macro way to do it in Reaper but it can feel a lot more complicated. S1 has the basics to get it done manually. I would not be a bit surprised if they exceed Cubase and Logic in this area in V3.

| Perhaps. I'm sticking with Reaper until something wows me otherwise. Looks like Cubase is kind of the leader for tempo mapping by the looks of your comparative video you put together, although perhaps thats now dated with S1 V2.6 released? |
